Saturday May 21 Povoa Varzim to Esposende

Saturday May 21 Povoa Varzim to Esponade
I am going to get ahead of myself.  The forecast for tomorrow says sunny all day, after light rain throughout the night.  Fingers crossed. It has yet to happen.
Also, I am in posh accommodations and actually looking forward to dinner. The hotel is completely full! Perhaps I will not be the only person in the dining room. When I arrived at 1:30 there was a large reception and lots of others eating. I had stopped for a cup of soup so was not hungry. Although I did walk the half mile back into town to have a coffee and pastry.

Today's walk was short, about 14 miles. The seaside was spectacular. Small, large rowboat size, fishing boats near the beginning and then ocean casting the rest of the way.

This tile mural shows disaster at sea. I would guess that most of the men of the village were lost that day.

Boardwalks, cobblestone streets and farm paths past acres of greenhouses full of vegetables.

Starting with a large town of resort condos and ending up at an upscale village with a few boutique hotels, fancy stores and cafes.

The church in Fao has a sactuary that instead of being richly decorated in gold leaf, has a beautiful painting rich in lapis lazuli blue.

This is a difficult to photograph attempt to show the fountain in Esposende that creates a boat with sail.

My back is tired so I will end this. My tablet only functions when plugged in and outlets are never near comfortable sitting locations.

  1. Catching up on past days' adventures while sipping a double bock and awaiting pizza at a place recommended by the team in Salt Lake. Might not have fully appreciated the water sail without the caption but with it: fantastical!
