Thursday, May 19 Porto

Thursday May 19 Porto and Matosinhos
The sun was shining and I felt completely recovered from the stressed hamstring, so I set out on the 7 mile walk to Matosinhos, a fishing village on the Atlantic. It is on tomorrow's Camino but in order to have a comfortable walk I would have to be past there well before lunch and I wanted to have a meal there.
( Everywhere there are sculptures showing women waiting in fear for the fishing boat to return)
A restauranteur only has to cross the street to get more fresh fish.
Fish, and chili peppers, are grilled on large roasters in the street.

After lunch I headed further north as I had been told that the boardwalks had become covered in sand by last week's storms.

Having seen it for myself, I decided to change my path a bit tomorrow.

Back into Porto past the fishing net sculpture and Castle of Cheese.

Fun watching the surfers. Like Waikiki beach the waves seem non existent.
A pleasant stroll

Back to Porto

Then back down the hill. This time on the way marked path.
Just in time to catch the 6:30 Fado show at the Caleb port cellar.
Dinner on the Gaia side of the Douro
Past the closing restaurants on the Ribeiro
And at the hotel by 10:30.
